Sorting by quality
- Grade A — width 100 mm and above, the surface of the veneer is flat, without core and stem rays, mechanical defects. “Live” knots — 1 piece per linear meter. Color pattern is uniform.
- Grade B — width 100 mm and more. Disadvantages: corrugations (irregularities), stem and medullary rays, “live” knots, color uneven.
- Grade C — width 90 mm and more. The following errors are allowed: corrugation, sapwood (protein part of the stem), stem and medullary rays, knots.

Characteristics of Afzelia wood
Afzelia is an African wood species spread throughout the continent. This is a tall and wide tree, yet straight trunks meet rarely. The structure is sustainable, with a pronounced dark heartwood and pale sapwood, however, young trunks can be completely light. The grains are alternately straight and interlaced, creating a characteristic “sandy” ornament. Tree rings are frequent, distinct, several tones darker than sapwood.
It has the following advantages: high density, hardness, durability, resistance to damage by insects, humidity, different temperature conditions.
