Characteristics of Wood
Padauk is the general commercial name for several species of the Pterocarpus genus native to the tropical forests of Australia and West Africa. The heartwood on a fresh cut is bright coral, but quickly darkens to brown hues. Sapwood pronounced, with white or beige tones. The texture is rough, with a bright natural shine. Wood is very resistant to insects and fungi, external factors. To preserve color, it is recommended to protect from direct exposure to sunlight.
Padauk board is a very stable material after proper drying. Easy to process manually and mechanically, accepts varnishes, polishes, impregnates. Do not use alcohol-based formulations. With frizzy grains, planing is difficult. Not suitable for curved parts.
