Wood Characteristics

Oak is one of the most popular valuable types of hardwood. It is characterized by hardness, elasticity, resistance to cracking at average density indices. Resistant to decay, insects, temperature changes. Shrinkage is moderately high. The heartwood is brown from light to medium. The sapwood is clearly demarcated from the heartwood. On the quartersawn, patterns of rays are visible. 

Oak lumber is easily processing and durable material, for what it is highly appreciated. It cuts well manually and mechanically. Processed by paints, varnishes, stains, fillers, waxes and other topcoats. Wood glues well and holds fasteners after pre-drilling. Upon contact with iron, oils become stained and discolored.
