Characteristics of wood
Amaranth is an exotic species that grows in Central and South America, where it is also known as the Purpleheart because of its color at the fresh cut. Under the sunlight, the wood acquires a deeper eggplant-purple hue. Over the years, the wood becomes dark brown with a slight shade of burgundy. These changes can be avoided using coatings with UV protection. The grains of the wood are straight, sometimes wavy. The texture is medium with a natural luster. This is a diffuse-porous wood with large pores, visible at a certain angle. Mineral deposits are present.
Amaranth lumber board is a dense, very hard material, resistant to cracking and bending. Resists insect attacks, rotting, moisture, and temperature extremes. Processing requires consideration of the direction of the grains and the correct angle of the blades. It is polished, takes varnishes, impregnations, fillers of pores, oils, and waxes. Used as indoor as outdoor works.
