Wood Characteristics
Wenge is an exotic species of tree native to Central and West Africa. It is appreciated all over the world due to its unique appearance: chocolate hue, uniform pattern with even grain, pleasant natural shine. The texture is coarse with straight grain.
It has high stability, strength, durability, density and resistance to insects. Due to the content of special oils and other components, wenge doesn’t need any additional treatment. If treated with oil, the wenge becomes almost black, which makes the breed a valuable alternative to ebony wood.
The odor of wood is distinct, bitter, but noticeable only during processing. It is very difficult to work with wood because of its high density and hardness: it dulls the edges of the saw, does not polish, and easily crack.
